November 25, 2025Moderator: Michael DUCK, Executive Vice President – Commercial Development of Informa Markets
Guest speaker: Brynjulv STANDAL, SVP of Sales & Marketing, APAC, Kongsberg Maritime
The Interview:
Mr Duck:
Good morning to everybody.
Mr Standal:
Thank you very much. Pleasure to be with you. My name is Brynjulv Standal. I'm the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Kongsberg Maritime in the Asia-Pacific region, which means I'm responsible for sales in China, Korea, Singapore, Japan, India and so forth
Mr Duck:
Kongsberg Maritime has long been at the forefront of integrated maritime solutions and digital information. What are the main technologies and systems and product highlights that you're showcasing at this year's Marintec exhibition?
Mr Standal:
Yes, the theme for the Kongsberg Maritime Booth during Marintec is technologies for sustainable oceans. We will showcase our core technologies within control systems, propulsion systems, electrical systems, tech machinery and digital solutions. We have a very broad portfolio of equipment and systems, and we will focus on the whole range of products and solutions we can offer to the market.
Mr Duck:
Kongsberg is known for its continuously pushing the boundaries of maritime technology. Are there any new products and systems or technological advancements being launched or unveiled during the exhibition?
Mr Standal:
We will be showing a new continuous emission monitoring system. This system is giving the ship owners real-time control of their emissions. So the system will help them with reporting eqin an efficient and secure way. Also compliant with the reporting ruirements from class societies and so on.
Mr Duck:
Kongsberg's strong commitment to driving sustainable maritime operations, how is the company adapting its decarbonisation strategies in light of the recent postponement of the IMO's net zero ratification during the October meeting?
Mr Standal:
With full force, we believe this setback to be temporary. In fact, there are many measures that ship owners can do to decarbonise that also makes financial sense for them. In our experience, there are many energy-saving measures that give a payback in less than two years. So it's in fact a way for the owners to save money in the long run.
Mr Duck:
Beyond showcasing technology, what does Kongsberg Maritime hope to achieve through its presence of Marintec, in terms of industry collaboration, customer engagement, or influencing the direction of maritime innovation and regulation?
Mr Standal:
Yeah, for Kongsberg Maritime, Marintec is a very important exhibition, with also a lot of conferences going on during the exhibition. So we are participating in many events in addition to what we are showcasing in our booth. Our president, Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, will participate in a roundtable discussion on innovation and collaboration for maritime sustainability. In addition to this, we will be participating in three other events with the Kongsberg Maritime speakers. We will also sign a collaboration agreement with a major Chinese partner during the exhibition. So all in all, it will be a very active week with good visibility for Kongsberg Maritime.
See you at Marintec in Shanghai on December 2nd to 5th
