The Interview:
Mr Duck:
Good day to everybody. My name is Michael Duck and I am Executive Vice-President of Informa Markets. It gives me great pleasure today to introduce to you Simone Mana, Vice-President of RINA, North Asia, who is based in Shanghai. Welcome Simone.
Mr Manca:
Thank you very much Michael. As you said, I am based in Shanghai. I am Italian, as almost 25 years that I am in this amazing industry.
Mr Duck:
RINA has been developing rapidly in recent years. Can you share the main factors behind this fast development?
Mr Manca:
Of course, the innovation because today, you cannot do nothing without innovation. Globally, about innovation, I would say we are working on two different lane. The first one is our arena innovation platform that is named the Spark, that in somehow, it is a strategic tool for collecting, evaluating and generating ideas right Innovative ideas, that’s a key point. And recently, we also had the opportunity to open the platform towards the external stakeholders.
They just want to facilitate the interaction with the industry, generating value at the end because the key point is in generating value.
Mr Duck:
And how RINA supports large cruise ship projects and maintains its strong presence in the region?
Mr Manca:
From locally, in China, first, in China, we are cooperating with the main stakeholders of the industry. We are quite happy to be here in China, in this specific moment right? Because it is quite clear that the Chinese is investing a lot in the cruise in terms of know-how, expertise and capability. I do believe that China will soon become an alternative but not only for building cruise right, because this one is one part of this scenario but I guess that the crew, for China, for Chinese people, is also an opportunity to leverage its beauty, its culture, right because this country is really, amazing
Mr Duck:
How RINA contributes to green fuel development, technical training and community engagement?
Mr Manca:
During the last three years, we had a possibility to develop several approval in principle, JDP building, strategic MOU, tailored for the expertise know-how, training with shipyard, designer, university, research, institute and simply, to support their innovation right. Because this one is, especially, in the decarbonization field, of course again, decarbonization is a bit overused, the word sometimes. But uh, we don’t have a magic sphere. There is no way to discuss about a one-way only. We must remain open, flexible. Key point is invest as we are doing in terms of competencies in multiple directions.
Mr Duck:
Are there any highlights or initiatives you are particularly excited to present during this event?
Mr Manca:
We are of course, we have our own booth at the Marintec as usual. We are arranging several presentations. All of them are linked to digitalization mainly and decarbonization. We will announce several approval in principle, new one with the local partners within the industry. Sign JDP with some famous and strong designer within the Mainland.
Mr Duck:
Thank you very much Simone
Mr Manca:
From 2 to 5 of December, see you at the Marintec in Shanghai.
