Innovative Collaboration: Harnessing Global Maritime Wisdom
Green and Low-Carbon: Charting the Future of Global Maritime
Marintec China 2025 is About to Set Sail

Press Release
17 September 2025

Hong Kong, 1 December 2025 - Returning to Shanghai from 2–5 December 2025, Marintec China, widely recognised as “The Leading Maritime Barometer”, is poised for its most significant edition yet. Under the theme “Innovation and Collaboration for Maritime Sustainability,” this landmark event will break previous records in exhibition scale, international participation, and professional programming, reaffirming its status as the world’s largest maritime exhibition.

Founded at the dawn of China’s economic transformation, Marintec China has evolved into a premier global platform for maritime exchange and cooperation. It continues to inject fresh momentum into the high-quality, sustainable development of the global maritime industry, steering it toward a greener, smarter, and more collaborative future.

Despite constrained shipbuilding capacity and global economic headwinds, the newbuilding market is projected to decline in transaction volume. Nevertheless, Clarksons forecasts new ship orders to reach approximately 120 million deadweight tons, reflecting a historically robust level. According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in the first three quarters of 2025, China’s shipbuilding industry accounted for 53.8%, 67.3%, and 65.2% of global totals across three key indicators by DWT, underscoring China’s global leadership and industrial resilience.

Looking ahead, favourable factors such as vessel scrapping, demand for green retrofits, and limited short-term expansion in quality shipbuilding capacity will continue to support elevated ship prices. Meanwhile, DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight platform reports that new orders for alternative fuel-powered vessels in the first half of 2025 surged by 78% compared to all of 2024, highlighting strong growth potential in green technologies.

Leveraging Marintec China’s brand influence and the momentum of the global shipbuilding “super-cycle,” the 2025 edition will serve as a dynamic hub for knowledge exchange and collaborative innovation. Spanning 11 exhibition halls and covering a record-breaking 110,000 square metres, the event will host over 2,200 exhibitors from more than 40 countries and regions, including 16 national and regional pavilions such as Denmark, Norway, and Germany. Overseas exhibitors will account for 43% of the total, with over 100,000 professional visitors anticipated from 100+ countries and regions.

Halls N1–N4 will feature global exhibitors, with Norway honoured as the Guest Country of Honour, led by a senior delegation from the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. Germany returns with the largest international pavilion, while Cyprus makes its debut. Industry leaders such as HD Hyundai, Fincantieri, Wärtsilä, Rolls-Royce, Cummins, Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric, MacGregor, Kongsberg, and Huisman will be joined by major classification societies including ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register, and RINA.

Halls W1–W7 will host domestic exhibitors, with overall scale expanded by 20%, bringing together over 1,200 Chinese enterprises, highlighting the strength of China’s maritime industrial chain. Exhibitors will come from 24 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, with key regional pavilions from Zhoushan (Zhejiang), Nantong and Zhenjiang (Jiangsu), and Pudong (Shanghai).

Leading names such as China State Shipbuilding Corporation, COSCO Shipping Group, China Merchants Industry Group, ZPMC, China Classification Society, and Hengli will return. The University Zone will be further enhanced, with participation from institutions including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Harbin Engineering University, Wuhan University of Technology, and Jiangsu University of Science and Technology. The Student Innovation Zone will once again feature standout projects from the National Marine Vessel Design and Production Competition.

In line with global priorities, low-carbon and zero-carbon technologies will take center stage at Marintec China. For the first time, the event will introduce the Marintec Innovation – Energytec Zone, showcasing cutting-edge solutions from leading marine renewable energy enterprises. Hall N4 will also feature a dedicated networking hub, powered by DNV, CATL, and Lloyd’s Register, hosting panel discussions on alternative fuels, electrification, natural sources, and nuclear energy, striking a balance between technical innovation and commercial collaboration.

Meanwhile, the Marintec Cruise Interiors Zone in Hall N3 will double in size, presenting a complete ecosystem of interior suppliers and design leaders. A curated program of expert talks at The Theatre will explore design trends, sustainability, and the future of passenger experience. Additionally, The Deck, a dedicated networking space powered by Team Norway and ABB, will provide opportunities for meaningful connections and collaboration.

Running concurrently with the exhibition, the Senior Maritime Forum will explore the theme “Smart Navigation, Green Coexistence, Integrated Innovation,” across five sessions: Keynote Reports, Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering, Shipping and Ports, Maritime Finance and Law, and Ship and Offshore Equipment Technology.

These sessions will spotlight digitalisation, green innovation, and energy-efficient technologies. The Maritime Finance and Law session, in particular, will gather leaders from finance, law, academia, and trade to assess current ship financing strategies and legal risk management, drawing over 1,200 academic delegates.

Beyond the main forum, hundreds of events will be hosted by leading organisations, including forums, technical seminars, product launches, signing ceremonies, and awards. Highlights include China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Technology Innovation Week and Pudong Shipping Week, led by the Pudong New Area Government.

This year’s edition places greater emphasis on attracting cargo owners, shipowners, and decision-makers from finance and legal sectors. Early registrations show strong interest from senior executives and procurement officials from global shipping enterprises. Participation from cruise shipowners, maritime energy providers, and port service companies is notably on the rise.

Digital services have also been upgraded, with the WeChat mini-program offering enhanced features and one year of post-event value-added services.

With over four decades of development, the Marintec China has become an indispensable global platform. At this pivotal moment of industry transformation, the 2025 edition aims to deliver a world-class maritime event, one that combines global vision, Chinese characteristics, and industry leadership, to foster deeper international cooperation and shape a sustainable future for the global maritime sector.
