Fung:

Hi, on behalf of Inform Markets and SSNAME, I would like to thank you Erlend, CEO of Norwegian Maritime Exports join the interview today. This is Stella, the Event Director of Marintec China, and it is my honor to host the interview today. Erlend, before we start the interview, would you like to give us brief account of yourself.

Prytz:

Absolutely, my name is Erlend Prytz, I go by Erlend, I am a Norwegian, I am the CEO Norwegian Maritime Exporters. I live in Norway, which is a beautiful country with a lot of outdoor activities and beautiful nature. But it’s not as vibrant as China. Not to mention Shanghai, but we like living here.

Fung:

Thank you. Erlend, the first question, Norway is ahead of the game in green fields and zero carbon vessels, can you give us a brief overview of this market and how does NME envision the future?

Prytz:

Well, let’s try. Norway has long tradition for being in forefront when it comes to innovation and development of the maritime industry. Our members are dedicated to environmental work, and based on our maritime expertise, we work hard to meet sustainability goals by 2030. Which is applies for early out with developing technology to reduce emissions easily, amendable for existing ships, not only new build, but such as scrubbers and health systems and so forth. Now, the folks have shifted to restore the implementation of electrification, green fuels and zero carbon vessels.

At Norwegian Maritime Exports, we believe it’s necessary for the maritime industry to do its part to reduce emissions. This is essential, as will get more pollution and climate change without action, we already seen large consequences and climate changes all over the world. In addition, our members have several innovative solutions that can be used to retrofit all the vessels so that they may become more environmentally friendly.

Fung:

So what are the plans for the current R&D and the road map?

Prytz:

The UN Sustainability Goals is an urgent goal for action by all UN member countries, both developed and developing, in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and older deprivations must go hand in hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality and promote economic growth. All while tackling the climate change and working to preserve our oceans and a forest by 2030.

Fung:

OK, so what are the highlights of the Norwegian pavilion at the upcoming Marintec China?

Prytz:

I think the highlight is that we have such a large pavilion even with the COVID restrictions, we were afraid that we might have to cancel, further, for Norwegian Maritime Exporters and our member companies are in tickets and important trade fair. So obviously we are happy that we have managed to arrange a team Norway pavilion despite the Corona restrictions and quarantine rules in China. We have thirteen Norwegian companies with us this time. These are companies that either have an office with local staff in Shanghai, or can use the Chinese agents to set their booth. I do know they all look very much forward to Marintec in December.

Fung:

Thank you. The last question is how would you describe Marintec to someone who has never visited.

Prytz:

First of all, shanghai is a vibrant and fun city with great people, restaurants and culture, and not to mention very inexpensive tailors. But please don’t tell them that cause they will jump up the prices(haha). Seriously, we love to come here. Marintec China is one of the most important maritime trade fairs in the world. It’s regarded as the gateway to the Asian maritime market. Therefore it’s an important fair to exhibit for all Norwegian maritime experts.

Fung:

Thank you, Erlend.  Thank you for all the questions.

Prytz:

December 7 – 10, 2022 at Shanghai New International Expo Centre, we look forward to seeing you at Marintec China.
